Tuning with a Softer Shock Spring

The Yokomo YOKR12-37SS X Shock Soft Spring is intended for 1/10 scale electric touring and on-road models and provides a softer option compared with medium or hard springs. This makes it a straightforward choice when you want to increase compliance and boost traction on low-grip tracks.

As a tuning component, the soft spring changes ride height, weight transfer and transient response without modifying internal shock parts. Racers usually swap in the spring while keeping their existing oil and pistons to evaluate handling differences. Remember that changes in spring rate will interact with preload, so adjust collars or spacers as needed to re-establish ride height.

Fitment is generic by design: the spring suits common shock assemblies that accept standard-length coils. Confirm internal travel and retainer clearance on your shocks before prolonged testing. Introduce these springs gradually and record handling changes, especially steering bite and mid-corner balance.

Remark :
Due to limited stock availability, please notice that some Yokomo items may have to order from the factory and the ready time is around 4-6 weeks. Customer purchases the item is assumed to accept the waiting time which allows us to order directly from the manufacturer if the item is out of our warehouse.
A softer spring typically increases mechanical grip and weight transfer, improving traction at lower speeds. It can, however, reduce high-speed stability, so adjust oil and preload together to find a balanced setup.
Not necessarily on the first change. Keep oil and pistons the same initially to isolate the spring effect, then tune oil viscosity or piston selection if the chassis needs improved damping or quicker recovery.
Make one change at a time and record lap times and subjective notes. Test on the same surface and with consistent runs to see how steering bite, mid-corner grip and rear traction respond to the softer spring.
