This 1/35 scale plastic model kit recreates the German 21 cm Morser 18 heavy howitzer, intended as a high-detail subject for display-focused modelling and collection displays.
Real-world background: The 21 cm Morser 18 was developed to supersede the earlier 21 cm M16 family and used a dual-recoil carriage to reduce peak emplacement forces. The arrangement pairs conventional barrel recoil within its cradle with a secondary recoil of the upper carriage relative to the main carriage, producing a more stable firing platform. Because of its size, the weapon was moved in separate loads and needed an integral firing platform and spade supports for emplacement and limited traverse.
Model description: The kit depicts the large carriage and separate barrel trailer configuration typical of the original. Injection-moulded plastic components capture the carriage layout, spade and platform features, and wheel assemblies. One photo-etched part is supplied for fine detail. Expect to handle many small parts and subassemblies to reach a tidy display finish.
Build notes and display guidance: Breaking the build into subassemblies will simplify painting and handling for a subject of this scale. Trial-fitting the carriage-to-platform connections and barrel mount before gluing will help preserve geometry. A finished model makes an impressive display item and benefits from groundwork that echoes the gun's emplacement elements.
A substantial 1:35 representation of a historically significant heavy howitzer, intended for modellers seeking an accurate display subject.
