Is disassembly of the rear required to fit this cover?

You will need to remove a few rear mounting screws to fit the cover, but full rear disassembly is not usually necessary.

Can I paint or anodize this part?

Aluminium can be anodized or given a suitable finish, but check clearances and mounting after any coating is applied.
