This Aoshima 1/700 kit recreates the Kamikawa Maru as a seaplane tender, designed with clear moulded detail for modelers who enjoy naval history. The compact scale works well for display cases and multi-ship layouts.
Originally launched in 1937 as a cargo vessel built by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Kamikawa Maru was converted to support seaplane operations. It carried reconnaissance aircraft like the Type 94 and Type 95 and took part in several wartime operations.
Over time it received defensive and launch system upgrades. The vessel performed across regional campaigns until it was sunk in 1943.
The kit offers a rewarding assembly experience, with opportunities for adding fine detailing. Builders can choose to weather the hull and add accessories to accurately depict different service periods.
