Overview and features of Tamiya 14088 YZR 500 2001 (1/12)

This 1/12 scale plastic kit reproduces the Factory Yamaha YZR 500 2001 as a display model with precise bodywork and race livery for dedicated builders.

The 2001 Yamaha YZR 500 campaigned in the 500cc world championship and introduced chassis balance revisions plus carbon-fibre body panels to enhance high-speed stability. The factory effort that year produced several noteworthy finishes from riders including Massimiliano Biaggi and Carlos Checa. The changes concentrated on improving throttle response and corner exit performance.

Modelers can use this kit to recreate the period look with carbon-style panels and team graphics. Accurate colour matching, layered clear coats and decal setting solutions will help reproduce the intended glossy and matte surfaces. Masking techniques and small-detail brushes are recommended for trim and stripe work.

  • Assembly: plastic model kit

A precise 1/12 interpretation of the 2001 factory racing machine, suited to serious modellers and collectors.

Apply decals after painting and sealing the base coats. Use decal softener sparingly on curved panels and finish with a clear coat to protect edges.
A base of satin black with subtle dry-brushed charcoal or a fine printed decal sheet will reproduce carbon texture; test on scrap plastic first.
Search archival race photography and team press images from 2001; close-up shots of the bodywork and sponsor markings provide the best guidance.
Standard polystyrene cement or liquid plastic glue is suitable; use small amounts and allow parts to settle for a clean seam line.
