Rugged Futaba S5301 Servo for Bigger R/C Models

The Futaba S5301 High Torque 1/4 Scale Servo is aimed at modelers who run larger airframes and surface craft and want robust, repeatable control. It handles sailplanes, large aeroplanes, gas cars and power boats where higher torque and reliability are needed.

High Torque with Durable Components

The 5-pole motor and metal gear set give the Futaba S5301 substantial torque and resistance to wear. Dual ball bearings reduce play and keep movement consistent, while the sealed aspects of the case help defend against dust and light moisture.

What Comes in the Box

The unit ships with a Futaba J male lead and a large preinstalled X-style horn for quick setup. Included hardware consists of four brass eyelets, four large black rectangular rubber grommets, and four 2 x 11mm mounting screws. Also supplied are three horns: a large round, a large X, and a small 6-arm for a variety of link choices.

Specifications

  • Speed: 0.29 sec/60° @ 4.8V, 0.23 sec/60° @ 6V
  • Torque: 233 oz-in @ 4.8V, 292 oz-in @ 6V (16.8 kg-cm @ 4.8V, 21.0 kg-cm @ 6V)
  • Dimensions: Length: 2.3" (59mm), Width: 1.1" (29mm)

A sensible choice for hobbyists upgrading control surfaces or fitting a single high-torque servo in place of dual setups.

Yes, its torque and gearing suit larger rudders and other control surfaces on gliders and sailplanes where extra force is required.
Metal gears offer better wear resistance than plastic, but like any gearbox they can be damaged by severe impacts. Proper servo sizing and shock protection are recommended.
Yes. The set of horns gives options for both pushrod and linkage arrangements; choose the horn that gives the correct throw and mechanical advantage.
If your receiver pack or onboard electronics have limited current capacity, use a dedicated BEC or a higher-capacity battery to avoid voltage sag under load.
