The Tamiya 1/48 Heinkel He162 Salamander kit presents a compact jet fighter from late World War II. Designed to showcase the jet era transition, this model highlights the He162's streamlined fuselage and turbine placement, offering scale enthusiasts a faithful small-form jet to assemble and display.
Known as the Volksjager or People fighter, the He162 was an early operational jet that used the BMW003 turbojet. Introduced in 1945, it represented a last-ditch move to deploy jet-powered interceptors. The aircraft's rapid development and limited production make it a compelling subject for historical modelling.
Tamiya's kit captures the He162's signature top-mounted BMW003 turbojet. The engine is separately modelled and can be shown on the supplied dolly. Builders can display the engine bay with covers removed, fit the canopy open or closed, and remove the ejector seat for cockpit detail work.
Measuring 205mm in length with a 149mm wingspan, the assembled model is a satisfying size for display. The kit comes with a pilot figure and four different marking options to reflect varied historical schemes. Basic model glue is required to complete the build.
