The Messerschmitt Me 262 is notable in aviation history as an early operational jet fighter. Its development began in April 1939, and the type demonstrated turbine-powered flight as a major technological step. The Me 262 first flew on July 18, 1942, powered by two Jumo 004B engines, reaching a top speed of 870 km/h at 6,000 meters. It had a service ceiling around 11,400 meters and a range near 1,050 kilometers.
The A-1a/U5 variant was planned to mount six MK108 cannon, but only one prototype was built in that arrangement. This kit lets modelers examine the unique aspects of that experimental armament layout.
