The F4U-5 Corsair marks the close of the propeller fighter era for the US Navy and is an important postwar design derived from the F4U-4. Its maiden flight on December 21, 1945, led to the adoption of a long nose to accommodate a 2300hp R-2800-32W engine fitted with an automatically-adjusting turbo supercharger.
The Hobby Boss 1/48 F4U-5 is modelled with over 200 parts to capture key structural and surface details. Builders will notice the refined cockpit assembly and a revised canopy that improve the kit's realism and display quality.
When completed, the model measures 215mm long with a 260mm wingspan, featuring a finely represented fuselage, wing shapes and a detailed engine and gear bay. Transparent canopy parts add clarity to the cockpit area and overall presentation.
