Overview of the Hobby Boss 1/48 F4U-5N Corsair Early Version

The F4U-5N Corsair marks a late development in piston-engine naval fighters. Derived from the F4U-4, its maiden flight occurred on December 21, 1945, and it was fitted with a lengthened nose to accommodate the 2300hp R-2800-32W engine and an automatic turbo supercharger. Only 233 units were produced as the conflict wound down.

This Hobby Boss kit recreates the F4U-5N with accurate changes to cockpit layout and canopy shape. The parts are moulded to show the aircraft's unique contours, helping modellers achieve a faithful scale result.

Construction Experience and Presentation

With over 200 components, this Hobby Boss F4U-5N kit provides detailed assemblies for the engine bay, landing gear wells and cockpit. Attention to small details pays off in the final display piece, which looks excellent under a clear varnish or with light weathering.

The kit reproduces the F4U-5N proportions faithfully, including the extended nose and canopy profile, making it a reliable base for an accurate scale model.
The kit is detailed out of the box, but advanced modellers often add photo-etched parts or wiring to enhance instrument panels and engine details.
Decals included are designed for the kit; with careful placement you can replicate several squadron markings typical of late-war Corsairs.
