The Grumman F9F Panther stands out as Grumman's inaugural jet fighter and the US Navy's second carrier jet. Its maiden flight came in 1947 and it was powered by the Rolls-Royce Nene engine made under licence by Pratt & Whitney as the J42. To offset the engine's heavy fuel use, designers added wingtip fuel tanks, a feature faithfully reproduced in this 1/72 kit by Hobby Boss.
This static kit comprises more than 90 parts with five clear pieces to capture cockpit glazing. The finished model measures 159.8 mm in length with a 161 mm wingspan, offering true-to-form proportions and a US Navy camouflage finish suited to display.
Assembly involves numerous small components, making the Hobby Boss F9F-2P an engaging project for those who enjoy fine-scale building. Once complete, the model serves as a neat addition to a military aviation collection.
