The Italeri 1/72 FW 190 D-9 model kit lets builders recreate a late-war German fighter known for improved high-altitude performance. The D-9 variant earned respect for its ability to operate effectively above several thousand metres.
Developed during World War II, the FW 190 D-9 was fitted with the Junkers Jumo 213A to boost high-altitude capability, enabling sustained operations above 7,000 meters and making it a serious competitor to Allied types like the P-51 Mustang.
Its armament typically included two 20mm cannons and two 13mm machine guns, with the D-9 taking on fighter and ground attack tasks including engagements during Operation Bodenplatte. Production figures are around 650 to 700 units and only four examples remain today.
At 1/72 scale the Italeri kit balances display presence with manageable build size. The parts offer clean detail and the included decals help achieve a faithful finish for museum-style or shelf displays.
