The Short Sunderland Mk.III served throughout the Battle of the Atlantic as a long-range patrol seaplane. Italeri's 1/72 rendition captures that maritime role, reflecting the aircraft used to hunt U-boats and protect convoys. The Mk.III appeared from 1941 with improved anti-submarine gear and patrol systems.
Favoured for its sturdy construction, the Sunderland Mk.III was powered by four Bristol Pegasus radial engines and offered a maximum speed near 336 km/h with a range of about 2,800 km. Modellers appreciate both the historical story and the kit's potential for a detailed finish.
The kit includes a super decals sheet for six marking schemes, photo-etched components and a detailed colour instruction sheet to guide assembly. The combination of decals and etched parts helps achieve a realistic result. Glue and paints are needed but not supplied with the kit.
