The Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum emerged during the Cold War as a nimble, twin-engined fighter designed to answer Western air superiority types. Powered by Klimov RD-33 engines, the aircraft achieved high-speed performance, often cited near Mach 2.2, and became a mainstay of Soviet frontline units.
Notable MiG-29 traits include a broad, low-profile fuselage and twin vertical stabilisers, plus an internal 30mm cannon and capability to carry various air-to-air missiles such as the AA-8 Aphid. These elements combined to prioritise manoeuvrability and short takeoff performance.
The Italeri 1/72 rendition captures the Fulcrum's proportions and is rewarding for builders who like detail without excessive part counts. Carefully finished, it presents an engaging display model that highlights the jet's aggressive nose and wing planform.
