The Italeri 1450 kit recreates the Aeritalia G-222 with attention to proportion and historic design cues. Giuseppe Gabrielli conceived the G-222 in the late 1960s to serve as a versatile tactical transport for the Italian Air Force. Smaller than the Lockheed C-130 Hercules, the G-222 was built for short-field performance on unprepared surfaces, powered by twin turboprops that allowed cruising speeds around 480 km/h.
The model also reflects the evolution to the C-27J Spartan, updated after 2005 with Rolls-Royce AE2100-D2 engines to raise top speeds beyond 600 km/h and improve overall performance. The type is capable of moving roughly 68 soldiers or more than 11 tonnes of freight and is fitted with modern avionics for demanding missions.
Builders and collectors will appreciate the precise parts in the Italeri 1/72 kit, which support faithful recreations of the transport. The assembly process highlights structural and cockpit details that make the finished model a strong addition to military aviation displays.
