The Italeri 1/48 Fiat CR.42 brings the classic biplane form into miniature. Derived from the earlier C.R.32, the CR.42 "Falco" used a mixed alloy, steel and fabric structure while retaining fixed gear and an open cockpit. It was driven by a supercharged Fiat A.74 air-cooled radial engine with speeds reported up to about 400 km/h.
Deployed by the Corpo Aereo Italiano in the Battle of Britain, the CR.42 was outpaced by newer monoplanes but respected for its agility. This kit captures the type's handling traits in scale, appealing to modellers keen on historic WW2 aircraft.
Expect several small parts and fine assembly stages that suit someone comfortable with glue and trimming. Once finished, the 1/48 CR.42 makes an attractive display piece for a cabinet or diorama that focuses on early war aerial combat.
