The model 42 Desert vehicle originated the Italian Army based on the framework and mechanics from the AB 41 armoured car. Throughout the operations regarding African front part, the requirement arose for a reconnaissance vehicle especially modified towards the wilderness conditions, which driving on sand required certain features which were maybe not current regarding available cars.
