Matte Black Acrylic for Detail Work

Tamiya's XF-1 Matt Black is a compact 10ml acrylic formulated for model makers who want a true matte appearance. The water-soluble acrylic resins make it easy to apply with a brush or an airbrush. It covers evenly and works well on styrol resins, Styrofoam, wood and most standard modelling plastics.

Preparing and Thinning

When airbrushing, use one of the Tamiya thinners like 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520 or 87077 to achieve a consistent spray. Thin in small steps and test sprays to get an even coat and good blending.

Do I need to prime before using XF-1?

Priming is recommended on smooth or glossy plastics to improve adhesion and ensure a uniform finish.

Is XF-1 safe to use on Styrofoam?

Yes. XF-1 is suitable for Styrofoam and similar foams, but always test a small area first to check for any reaction with the foam you are using.
