Avante Mk.II Returns on a DF-03 Base

First seen in 1988, the Avante established itself as an innovative contender in RC circles. Tamiya revives that spirit with the Avante Mk.II, now riding on the proven DF-03 chassis to offer updated packaging and modern running qualities.

Shell Design and Grip Characteristics

The model features an aerodynamic polycarbonate shell that keeps weight down while reflecting the original profile. High-density spike tyres deliver reliable traction on loose tracks, and the chassis layout supports consistent steering response.

Chassis Construction and Suspension Setup

The DF-03 layout uses compact gearboxes front and rear with sealed ball differentials to reduce contamination. Ball bearings are fitted throughout to lower friction, and the independent double wishbone suspension with long arms helps maintain wheel control over rough sections.

Drive System and Electronic Requirements

A Type 540 motor is provided in the kit, giving enough punch for trail and club racing. You will need to supply an electronic speed controller separately to match your motor and battery choice.

Tamiya Avante Mk.II DF-03 appeals to modellers and club racers who appreciate period styling with modern mechanicals. The build is straightforward and the setup is forgiving on varied off-road surfaces.

The kit is a traditional Tamiya assembly with detailed instructions; it is manageable for those with some model building experience and a basic toolset.
The chassis accepts a range of Type 540 sized motors and corresponding ESCs, but check space and mounting when converting to a brushless setup.
The spike tyres and suspension are optimised for loose dirt, gravel and hard-packed tracks; swapping tyres will tailor grip for different conditions.
