This is a 1:48 injection-moulded representation of the Sea Hawk FGA.MK.6, produced for display modelling with provision for the external stores typical of Fleet Air Arm service in the late 1950s.
The Hawker Sea Hawk entered service with the Royal Navy in the early 1950s and completed carrier trials with 806 Squadron at Brawdy in 1953. Initial variants had earlier powerplants; later airframes were fitted with the Nene 103 engine which extended attack capability and enabled carriage of external ordnance. A total of 434 Sea Hawks were constructed for Royal Navy use, with frontline service maintained into 1960 and export customers operating the type into the 1980s. The FGA.6 incorporated the Nene Mk.103 upgrade and was produced in limited numbers during the mid 1950s. Recorded service dimensions include a length of 12.09 m, wingspan 11.89 m and a top speed around 962 km/h.
As a scale kit the emphasis is on the external profile and service fit rather than on exhaustive cockpit overhaul. The finished model dimensions are approximately 249 mm fuselage length and 245 mm wingspan at 1:48, making it appropriate for carrier deck or hangar diorama displays. Kit extras include a single photo-etched fret to refine certain apertures and an instrument panel film to represent the instrument faces where printed parts are not supplied.
A model concentrating on faithful external lines and selective detail upgrades, intended for builders who want a classic Fleet Air Arm fighter for display or diorama use.
