The Tamiya 71119 Stag Beetle gives young makers a hands-on introduction to simple robotics. As a Robocraft Series model, it demonstrates mechanical principles through construction and operation. Its clear housing makes the internal gearing visible during motion.
Two motors sit inside pre-assembled gearboxes to deliver forward and reverse plus left and right steering. Control is handled by a 2-stick, 2-channel transmitter that features a self-neutral position for easy handling. The beetle has a mouth linked to the legs to mimic a natural opening and closing action, and the tooth positions can be adjusted for custom looks.
Assembly uses screws and comes with a screwdriver to guide new builders through the process. The build reinforces basic mechanics and manual dexterity. The model requires two R6/AA/UM3 alkaline batteries which must be purchased separately.
