The Suzuki GSX1100S Katana shocked the motorcycle world at the 1980 Cologne show with a bold new aesthetic. Its sharp silhouette and purposeful proportions redefined sportbike styling and remain a favourite subject for scale reproduction.
Created by Hans A. Muth in West Germany, the Katana emphasised aerodynamic form and rider comfort. Elements like the rearward footpegs and unique fuel tank shape were refined in wind tunnels to improve handling and ergonomics.
The original machine used an air-cooled 1075cc parallel four with Suzuki TSCC technology. Rated at roughly 111 horsepower and capable of about 230 km/h, the bike combined high speed stability with distinctive styling that the scale kit strives to reproduce.
Tamiya's 1/12 kit captures scale-accurate lines and small details for display or diorama building. The PS plastic parts offer crisp definition for modelmakers focused on precise assembly and accurate presentation.
