The Honda CX500 Turbo stands out as the first turbocharged production motorcycle, introduced in 1981. The project combined Honda's engineering with turbo systems from IHI, converting the V2 OHV design into a higher output machine. With computerized fuel injection, the bike produced around 78hp and roughly 7.5kg/m of torque, reaching speeds over 120 mph in period tests.
Tamiya's 1/12 representation focuses on realistic proportions and component detail. The assembled model measures 172mm long by 56mm wide and recreates the CX500 Turbo's suspension and bodywork layout. The front cowling can be removed after building to show the internal detail, and the kit includes synthetic rubber tyres and precise Cartograf decals for final touches.
The kit provides a hands-on build that rewards patience. Replicated features such as the Pro-Link rear suspension and the adjustable anti-nose-dive front end mirror the motorcycle's original mechanical concepts, making the assembly both accurate and instructive.
