2006 saw the development of a "new guard" to MotoGP, as Dani Pedrosa plus the young Australian Casey Stoner relocated up from 250cc program to challenge Valentino "health related conditions" Rossi for their 990cc crown. Besides making the relocate to MotoGP was Team LCR, led by racing veteran and Stoner's long-time boss in 250cc course, Lucio Ceccinello. LCR combined with Honda to field the effective RC211V '06 in its final period ahead of the scale-down to 800cc devices.
