Recreating the Suzuki GSX1100S Katana in Tamiya 1/6 scale

The GSX1100S Katana holds a special place in motorcycle history for its futuristic styling and engineering. First shown at the 1980 Cologne Motorcycle Show, the Katana introduced a bold new look that influenced sportbike design for years.

What made the Katana stand out

Designed by Hans A. Muth, the Katana emphasised streamlined panels and a rider-friendly position to reduce drag and improve handling. Its form was as much about function as it was about a striking aesthetic that still commands attention.

Underneath the shell, the production GSX1100S carried an air-cooled 1075cc inline-four engine using Suzuki's TSCC system. The setup delivered roughly 111 horsepower and could push the bike to around 230 km/h while keeping composure at high speed.

Kit features and modelling approach

Tamiya 16025 reproduces the Katana's characteristic fairings and visible mechanicals, giving builders a chance to assemble a model with authentic proportions. The kit suits modellers who enjoy careful painting and part preparation, producing a standout shelf piece when complete.

excellent service as usual. My only regret, poor stock plastic models AUTO MOTO great model 1 / 6, 1 / 8, 1 / 16, 1 / 18 from Tamiya And if you sell the Fujimi? :) Otherwise, the price of models, although the increased charges are still affordable and

Incredibly fast delivery . All in very good condition .
You can use standard hobby acrylics or enamels; pick gloss or metallic shades per reference images and mask carefully for clean lines.
Some builders fit brass or photo-etched parts for finer detail, but check dimensions since the kit is designed around the supplied components.
Expect several evenings to a few weekends depending on prep, painting, and weather for paints to cure; take time on small parts for best results.
