History and styling of the Tamiya 16031 Honda Gorilla

Originating as a compact leisure machine in 1978, the Honda Gorilla evolved from the Monkey series and became known for its compact engine and chunky fuel tank. The original used a 49cc air-cooled engine with a four-speed gearbox, and the model saw a refreshed 1998 release featuring enhanced chrome work.

Faithful 1/6 scale assembly

The Tamiya 1/6 rendition captures the character of the 1998 Gorilla. With overall dimensions of 226mm by 104mm by 183mm, the kit reproduces the larger headlight unit, chrome details and engine components. The included front and rear suspensions operate, adding realism to the assembly process.

Collector friendly display piece

Beyond the build, this kit is crafted to present well on a shelf or in a cabinet. Chrome-plated parts reflect light like the original bike, and decal options let you choose between standard and "Spring Collection" markings for a customised finish.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/6
  • Length: 226mm
  • Width: 104mm
  • Height: 183mm
  • Material: Plastic with metal-plated parts
  • Functional front and rear suspensions
  • Includes decals for regular and "Spring Collection" versions
Basic modelling tools such as nippers, a hobby knife, sanding sticks and plastic cement are recommended. Fine tweezers and small files help with detailed parts and decals.
While many plated parts are supplied, painting is useful for non-plated sections and to achieve period-accurate colours. Use hobby-grade paints for best adhesion on plastic components.
The front and rear suspensions are functional and allow light movement for display poses, but they are not designed for frequent mechanical stress.
