Tamiya 18068 Thunder Dragon Premium - VS chassis profile

The Tamiya 18068 Thunder Dragon Premium updates a classic Mini 4WD silhouette for the 30th anniversary, blending retro cues with a modern chassis setup. Mounted on the VS platform, the model offers a neat balance between looks and practical race potential.

Appearance and materials

The Thunder Dragon Jr. body is moulded in a distinctive silver finish that catches light on the straight. The VS chassis uses dark blue ABS for strength and impact resistance. The kit includes large-diameter fluorescent yellow wheels fitted with black spike tyres to boost traction and add a vivid contrast.

Layout and key parts

The VS chassis is compact and lightweight, engineered to keep the centre of gravity low for improved handling. Low-friction black rollers in 13mm and 13-12mm sizes reduce contact resistance during cornering. Power comes from a Type 130 motor paired with a 4.2:1 gear ratio for a balanced performance envelope.

Tuning possibilities and accessories

There are numerous Grade-Up Parts available separately for fine tuning. From roller upgrades to stabiliser kits, these parts allow owners to adapt the Thunder Dragon to different track profiles and personal driving style.

The kit includes low-friction black rollers in two sizes: 13mm and a 13-12mm combination. These help lower friction at the contact points and improve cornering line stability.
A Type 130 motor is supplied with the model, matched to a 4.2:1 gear ratio to give a workable balance of acceleration and top speed for club racing scenarios.
Replacement parts and Grade-Up items are available from Tamiya dealers and spare parts catalogues. Common wear items like tyres, rollers and small chassis pieces are typically easy to source.
