The Tamiya 18103 Jr Cross Spear 01 brings a compact racing body by Takayuki Yamazaki to the Mini 4WD lineup. It rides on the VZ chassis, chosen for its light yet sturdy construction that suits both track tuning and shelf display.
Taking inspiration from sport cars, the Cross Spear 01 body is moulded in light gray ABS. The tinted light smoke ABS canopy can be removed so you can run the car as an open or closed-top racer, adding flexibility to how you present or tune it.
The VZ chassis uses a truss connection between the centre and outer cowling sections to keep the frame stiff while limiting weight. The standard 3.5:1 gear ratio offers a compromise between speed and torque that suits a range of small-track formats.
For improved lap times, consider swapping in a higher-performance Type 130 motor or testing different tyre compounds to match your local track surface. Low-friction POM 620 plastic bearings are included to help wheels spin freely under load.
Parts are largely snap-fit for a clear, hassle-free assembly. The driver figure can be taken out for custom detailing. Remember to add two AA batteries to run the model, as they are not included.
The Tamiya 18103 Jr Cross Spear 01 is a practical Mini 4WD kit that provides a good base for tuning and simple builds, ideal for hobbyists refining their setup skills.
