The Lotus 78 left a notable mark on Grand Prix engineering with its innovative bodywork and side pontoons created to produce downforce. During the 1977 season drivers Mario Andretti and Gunnar Nilsson took the car to competitive finishes, helping to shape future race car concepts.
Tamiya's 1/20 rendition reproduces the Team Lotus gloss black livery and Mario Andretti's No.5 details. The miniature portrayal includes the DFV engine, transmission and suspension elements rendered to reflect the original mechanical layout.
The model uses photo-etched components for fine features like wing fittings and seatbelt hardware, with metal transfers for mirror surfaces. Realistic rubber tyres and a display base with a name plaque and clear cover finish the piece for shelf presentation.
