Retro 1980s Prelude in 1/24 scale, modelled for accurate assembly

The Tamiya 1/24 Honda Prelude XX captures the look and engineering of the second generation Prelude from the early 80s. When launched in 1982 the car was praised for its front double wishbone up front and MacPherson strut at the rear, delivering stable handling and a comfortable ride. Its front-wheel-drive setup and optional 4-wheel ABS were progressive features for the era.

The production Prelude used a 1,829cc SOHC 4-cylinder engine with three valves per cylinder producing around 125 hp and a top speed near 170 km/h. The slim, wedge-shaped bodywork with pop-up headlights and sunroof is faithfully represented in the kit, giving builders an opportunity to recreate the model with scaled accuracy.

What to expect when building this kit

The Honda Prelude XX kit from Tamiya works well for both casual builders and more experienced hobbyists. A removable hood reveals the engine bay, which is modelled with fine detail. The headlights can be shown in either up or down positions and the synthetic rubber tyres feature authentic tread for a realistic finish.

Yes, the plastic takes model paints well. Many builders prime parts and paint panels separately before final assembly for a cleaner finish.
The kit comes with printed decals for exterior trim and instrument faces. Aftermarket decal sheets are available if you want alternative liveries.
Tyres are made from synthetic rubber and have a realistic flex and tread pattern to match the scale look.
Build time varies by skill and finishing level but expect several weekends for careful painting, detailing and decal work.
