The Porsche 962C holds a strong reputation in endurance racing thanks to thoughtful engineering and race durability. Introduced to conform with Group C regulations from 1982, the 962C was developed from the 956 and adapted for IMSA and worldwide endurance racing, receiving notable upgrades by 1985 including a 3000cc twin-turbo engine and larger wheels to improve speed and robustness.
The Shell-liveried 962C from Le Mans 1988 is noted for its pole position and fastest lap, despite not taking the overall win. Tamiya's 1/24 re-release faithfully captures the details of that car for model builders and collectors.
