Overview: Tamiya 24377 1/24 Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr.5 model

This 1/24 scale plastic assembly kit recreates the Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr.5 and represents a re-release of a classic motorized kit intended for modellers who want a faithful Group 5 racer from the period.

The real-world Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr.5 was prepared for the 1977 DRM (Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft) using the Celica Liftback as its base. Its race form included pronounced overfenders, a prominent rear wing and the use of lightweight body panels to satisfy Group 5 rules. Power came from a heavily modified 2,090cc turbocharged inline-four with dual overhead cams, giving competitive output for its time and earning noteworthy finishes from mid 1977 onward.

This reissue refreshes the original tooling and adds a Cartograf decal sheet, an updated instruction leaflet and new packaging. The plastic sprues include cockpit detailing such as a roll cage, a stylised chassis underside and basic suspension parts. Mesh-style wheels come fitted with solid synthetic rubber slick tyres. The kit bundle contains one driver figure and multiple decal number choices.

Overall, the kit offers a faithful late 1970s Group 5 Celica profile and the essential detail parts needed for accurate display builds and collector presentations.

Assembly follows standard injection-moulded kit practice; the updated instruction sheet guides modelers through chassis, body and cockpit assembly. Some experience with painting and masking is recommended for best results.
Wheels are supplied in a mesh-style form on the sprues; the tyres are separate solid synthetic rubber components that fit those wheels.
Yes. The reissue emphasises period appearance and display detailing rather than motorised operation, making it well suited to shelf displays and dioramas.
