The Type 3 Chi-Nu represents one of Japan's late-war medium tank designs, developed to improve on the earlier Type 97 Chi-Ha. Rolled out in May 1944, the Chi-Nu used a 240hp Type 100 V-12 diesel engine and was armed with a Type 3 75mm gun to counter Allied armour like the M4 Sherman. Production reached roughly 200 vehicles, which remained on the home islands and saw no front-line action against Allied forces.
This 1/35 scale offering from Tamiya captures the Chi-Nu with careful moulding and includes four crew figures to stage realistic scenes. Fine Molds-sourced parts boost authenticity, while the belt-type track system keeps construction manageable for intermediate modellers.
