The M1A1 Abrams entered US service in August 1984. Early models used a 105mm gun before upgrades to a 120mm smoothbore, combined with an advanced fire control system and a 1,500hp gas turbine engine. These features made the Abrams a decisive platform during the Gulf War in 1991, particularly against T-72 opponents.
In 2023 the United States pledged to send roughly thirty M1A1 tanks to Ukraine, reaffirming the vehicle's continued role in modern operations. Tamiya's 1/35 scale kit recreates the vehicle with careful detail suitable for tabletop display or a focused build project.
The kit reproduces the Abrams signature flat armor and the 120mm smoothbore main gun. Small-scale detailing includes engine-room grilles and realistic weld seams. A piece of nylon mesh is included to replicate the turret rack cover accurately.
Decals allow you to finish the model in markings representing the tanks sent to Ukraine. Belt-type tracks and photo-etched items increase the fidelity of the finished model and reward careful assembly.
