The Tamiya 1/72 Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien kit invites modellers to investigate a distinctive Japanese WWII fighter. Put into service in 1943, the Hien was unusual among its peers because it used a liquid-cooled Ha-40 engine, giving it different flight and maintenance characteristics in period accounts.
This boxing covers the Ki-61-Id, the most numerous Hien type with about 1,360 produced. The aircraft's extended nose contained 20mm cannon installations, a noteworthy feature for interception roles against heavy US bomber types. Tamiya captures the aircraft's raw metal look through a matte silver plating finish.
Builders will value the faithful proportions of the long nose and slim fuselage. The cockpit can be partially assembled before fuselage closure to save handling. The kit includes fine details like a radiator and oil cooler, clear parts for lights and gunsight, and optional components such as a Venturi tube to enhance accuracy.
