The Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien, nicknamed "Tony", served with the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force during World War II. This production variant used the liquid-cooled Ha-40 engine, resulting in a streamlined fuselage and an extended nose profile to house its weapons.
In Pacific operations the Ki-61-Id engaged high-altitude bombers like the B29, with squadrons such as the 244th Air Group under leaders like Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi flying the type. The Tamiya 25424 kit includes silver colour plated parts and camouflage decals to help recreators achieve a faithful finish.
Recommended paints include AS-18 Light Gray for the base and LP-5 Semi Gloss Black for finer areas. Additional items such as a 1.0mm drill bit and Panel Line Accent Colors will help detail panel seams and cockpit fittings.
