The IJN Battleship Yamato is a standout example of wartime naval engineering, launched in August 1940 at the Kure shipyard. Built to push past treaty limits, Yamato combined massive size with heavy armament. This 1/700 waterline kit from Tamiya captures the ship's silhouette and offers a compact build for display or study.
Conceived around 1934 to overcome the Washington Naval Treaty constraints, Yamato was designed to outgun rivals with its 46cm main guns and oversized hull. As the largest battleship constructed, its scale and firepower are faithfully hinted at in this model's detailing.
The Tamiya 31113 kit contains finely moulded grey and red plastic pieces alongside clear parts for small fittings. The set includes the main armament, a deck crane, flag and separate float planes. Lifeboats are included and a metal fitting helps with flotation for waterline presentation.
With accurate proportions and neat surface detail, the finished model offers strong display value in a naval collection. It is compact enough to sit with other scale warships and detailed enough to illustrate Yamato's distinctive features.
