Yahagi in 1/700 scale - Agano class

The Yahagi was an Agano-class Japanese light cruiser, with construction starting in 1939 and completion in December 1943. She saw action at the Battle of the Philippine Sea and later joined the Yamato during the Okinawa operation. This Tamiya 31315 release reproduces hallmark elements like the twin quadruple torpedo launchers and the augmented anti-aircraft arrays from her late-war fit.

Accuracy, parts and presentation

This 1/700 scale kit provides a sharply modelled representation with a finished length of 247mm. Exterior components reflect the cruiser’s wartime appearance and the kit includes metal fittings that help with display stability and realism. Waterslide transfers and clear pictorial guidance make the assembly process manageable for experienced hobbyists seeking an accurate Agano-class model.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/700
  • Completed Length: 247mm
  • Material: Plastic
  • Assembly: Requires glue
  • Decals: Waterslide
Essential tools include a fine cutter, hobby knife, tweezers, sanding sticks and plastic cement. A small brush set and thin paint will help with the fine deck and armament details.
The waterslide decals are typical for this scale and give crisp markings when applied carefully. Use decal softener and a flat varnish to seal them for a realistic finish.
Some modellers add fine brass rigging or photo-etched parts to enhance small details, but the kit is already well detailed and presents strongly straight out of the box.
