The Tamiya 1/700 Akatsuki kit captures the lead ship of the Type III "Special Type" destroyers as completed in 1932. Noted for its slimmer forward funnel and a noticeably larger bridge, Akatsuki participated in operations from northern waters to the Solomon Islands, ultimately sinking during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. This release represents the ship in her initial configuration, ideal for history-minded builders.
Tamiya provides finely detailed external parts, multiple gun fittings and a metal flotation element to enhance realism and ensure a steady display. Waterslide decal sheets and clear pictorial instructions are included to make assembly straightforward. The finished hull measures 157mm long, ready for shelf display or inclusion in a small diorama.
