The Tamiya 1/700 IJN Destroyer Shikinami kit allows hobbyists to build a compact replica of a vessel active in the Pacific campaign. Shikinami completed numerous Guadalcanal resupply missions and saw action at the Sunda Strait and Eastern Solomons before being sunk by a US submarine in 1944.
Shikinami belonged to the Type II "Special Type" destroyers, valued for their speed and firepower. This kit portrays the ship in a later-war configuration with upgraded anti-aircraft fittings, offering insight into mid-war naval adaptations.
The moulded parts include detailed funnels, searchlights and masts. Modellers can substitute items from the sister ship Ayanami to depict an earlier state. The set contains waterslide decals for accurate insignia and a metal insert to help the finished model sit correctly on a display base.
