The Tamiya 1/700 IJN Destroyer Matsu reproduces the essential traits of the Tei Type ships, designed during WWII for faster production. The simplified hull lines and utilitarian bridge reflect the urgent shipbuilding approach of the period. Matsu herself was completed in April 1944.
The model captures distinctive features such as the starboard-offset funnel and the arrangement of main turrets and 25mm anti-aircraft mounts. These details reflect the attempts to bolster air defence on late-war Japanese escorts.
At 143mm long when assembled, the kit provides crisp surface detail and a satisfying build. Included are a metal flotation aid, waterslide transfers, and step-by-step pictorial instructions to support accurate painting and rigging for collectors and diorama builders.
