The Shimakaze gained attention in World War II as an exceptionally fast destroyer, with a top speed near 40.9 knots. She utilized powerful steam turbines generating 75,000 horsepower and carried unique quintuple torpedo tubes. Planned as the first of a 16 ship series, Shimakaze remained the only completed prototype and was sunk during the Battle of Ormoc Bay in November 1944.
Tamiya's 1/700 rendition gives modellers a faithful interpretation of the ship. First issued in 1972 and revised in 2017, the kit uses refreshed references to sharpen fit and surface detail for realistic builds.
