The USS Yorktown (CV-5) was one of the United States Navy's early carriers, launched in 1937 and later taking a central role in Pacific operations. She led Task Force 17 and saw action at the Coral Sea before committing to the Battle of Midway. Yorktown made a lasting impact on carrier warfare despite being fatally damaged in battle.
This Tamiya 1/700 kit captures Yorktown as she appeared around Midway, with finely moulded components aimed at hobbyists who value scale accuracy. The model supports options for hangar door placement and includes a movable stern elevator to vary your display.
Included are parts to assemble the carrier air group: F4F Wildcats, Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless dive bombers, and Douglas TBD-1 Devastators. These additions allow for a credible deck scene representative of the ship's wartime air power.
