The Tamiya 1/700 CV-3 Saratoga kit offers a finely detailed waterline model that appeals to ship modellers wanting a compact display piece. It is part of the Water Line Series, known for faithful hull lines and deck fidelity.
Initially laid down as a battle cruiser and launched in April 1925, Saratoga was converted to an aircraft carrier mid construction. That conversion left distinctive features such as an enclosed bow and a prominent funnel. The vessel played an active role during WWII and survived severe damage at events including the February 1945 Iwo Jima operations.
This release represents Saratoga at the time of the Battle of Iwo Jima. The moulding includes a two-part hull and a full-length single-piece flight deck for clean lines. Included are scale Hellcat and Avenger aircraft to dress the deck for display.
