The Z Class destroyers, including Z37 through Z39, illustrate wartime shifts in armament and layout. These vessels began with 12.7cm guns but some were refitted with 15cm main guns and a twin-forward turret to improve firepower. Project Barbara later concentrated on anti-aircraft reinforcement, increasing the ships ability to resist air attack during later operations.
Tamiya's accurate 1/700 representation gives hobbyists the option to assemble both early and upgraded configurations. The kit includes finely molded radar elements and 37mm and 20mm cannon parts, and provides pieces to show the destroyers both before and after Project Barbara alterations.
As a pair, these models form a compact but detailed exhibit for dioramas or cabinets. The included painting guide and flag decals make it easier to match period camouflage and markings for a museum-quality look.
