This Tamiya 1/48 M4 Sherman Early Production model delivers an authentic small-scale version of the early Sherman, aimed at modellers who value accurate silhouette and historic detailing. It is compact enough for tight display spaces while preserving essential features.
The M4 Sherman was the backbone of U.S. armoured formations during World War II, with roughly 50,000 produced. Its simple, mass-producible design made it adaptable to changes in theatre needs. The early type is recognisable by a 60-degree welded hull and a cast turret mounting a 75mm M3 main gun. Performance was provided by a 350hp air-cooled petrol engine, with Vertical Volute Spring suspension and a 5-speed transmission, achieving speeds up to about 38.6 km/h. The tank featured prominently in operations from Normandy to Italy.
Tamiya's model reproduces key early-production traits, including the three-part bolted transmission cover, sharply raked upper hull and a smooth cast turret. A die-cast lower hull adds realistic weight for stable display. The movable turret and elevating barrel let builders pose the model for dioramas or shelf presentation.
