Developed for the Japanese Navy to assist rapid airfield construction during World War II, the Komatsu G40 was Japan's first domestically built bulldozer. Although 148 were produced, wartime events prevented many from reaching front line projects. A single survivor is on display at the Komatsu Techo Center in Shizuka and was named a Mechanical Engineering Heritage item by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2007.
Tamiya's 1/48 rendition faithfully captures the G40's silhouette and fitted details. The kit includes finely represented hydraulic linework and a metal transfer IJN emblem for the grille. It provides a rewarding build for enthusiasts who enjoy accurate military miniatures and period detailing.
