The Tamiya 1/48 German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elefant reproduces a notable WWII armoured hunter in a convenient scale. With a reputation built on its 8.8cm gun and thick armour, the Elefant presents an authentic subject for scale enthusiasts. The kit balances detail and size for display shelves and modelling workbenches.
Developed initially as the Ferdinand, the vehicle was produced in small numbers - around 90 by May 1943 - and was prominent at the Battle of Kursk. Reports credit it with a high tally of enemy vehicles during early engagements. Later upgrades saw it enter service as the Elefant on multiple fronts, including later defensive actions.
This Tamiya release gives clear moulded parts that simplify alignment and finishing at 1/48 scale. Model makers will find it rewarding for painting and weathering projects, and it makes an attractive example in any military collection.
