The Merkava I represents a step toward homegrown armour, developed to meet the demands of regional operations. This model lets modellers study the tank's distinctive construction and operational adaptations in miniature form.
Limited access to foreign armour after early conflicts forced local workshops to improvise and standardise older vehicles. That experience fed into the decision to create an original design that addressed crew protection and battlefield needs.
Tamiya's 1/35 rendition of the Merkava I captures notable external features, including the troop compartment at the rear and the main gun layout. The parts are moulded for clean assembly and reproduce surface detail useful for weathering and finishing techniques.
