Panzer IV Ausf. J - role and wartime changes

The Panzer IV was central to Germany's armoured formations across WWII, with more than 8,000 produced. Often called the "workhorse", it was updated repeatedly. The Ausf. J from 1944 reflects wartime simplification of parts and construction as resources became scarce.

Kit composition and historical detail

The Tamiya 1/35 scale kit faithfully reproduces the tank's silhouette and fittings with finely detailed plastic components. It includes the long 75mm gun profile, lifelike flexible track sections and interchangeable wheel sets so builders can represent early or late production details.

Model building and presentation notes

This is a static display model that rewards careful assembly and painting. Included are a crew figure, machine gun parts and a storage container to enhance authenticity. Use the open or closed hatch options and apply the waterslide decals to complete a convincing Panzer Mk.IV Ausf. J display piece.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/35
  • Material: Plastic
  • Includes detailed flexible tracks
  • Assembly required: Glue and paint

Beginners can attempt this kit but should expect a learning curve. Start with basic tools and practice trimming parts and sanding joints before moving to painting and weathering.
The kit provides both early and late style road wheels so you can depict specific production runs. Check reference photos to pick the correct wheel set for your chosen scheme.
Paint track sections before final assembly where possible. Use primer, then base coat and light drybrushing to bring out link detail. Glue tracks in short sections to maintain alignment.
Waterslide decals supplied give authentic marking choices. Test placement on spare plastic or paper before application and seal with a clear coat after they dry to protect the finish.
